Gasoline and diesel prices return to pre-pandemic levels

Gone are the times when gasoline and diesel prices they were news for registering historical lows. The latest data confirm that there is a constant increase, to the point that, today, filling the tank costs almost the same as before the pandemic.

The figures published by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), based on the latest update of the Oil Bulletin of the European Union. show that the fuel price it is returning to pre-pandemic levels. In the week of March 8-14, 2021:

  • the price of diesel recorded an increase of 0.85% compared to the values ​​of the previous week
  • the price of gasoline increased by 0.68%

The price of gasoline

The prices registered at the beginning of March maintain the upward trend of the last weeks. In January 2021, the average price of gasoline 95 both in the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands it increased for the second consecutive month (with respect to the previous one), reaching 1,223 euros per liter; 2.6%.

The retail price maintained an upward trend throughout the month. Thus, the minimum value (1,203 euros per liter) was recorded from days 1 to 3 and the maximum (1,237 euros per liter) at the end of the period analyzed, from days 29 to 31. The largest daily increases occurred on days 14 (+0.49%), 8 and 12 (+0.41%).

The price of diesel

For diesel, the increase in January 2021, the registered increase was 2.9% compared to the previous month, up to 1.106 euros per liter.

The daily RRP of diesel A, like that of gasoline 95, maintained an upward trend throughout the month. Thus, the minimum value (€ 1,088 / lt) was recorded from days 1 to 3 and the maximum (€ 1,118 / lt) at the end of the analyzed period, from days 22 to 25 and from 29 to 31. The largest daily increases occurred on days 14 (+0.45%), 8 (+0.37%) and 12 (+0.36%).

These figures place Spain in third place in the EU price ranking for gasoline 95; and in the eleventh for diesel.
