Every penny arrives! – This is how “Ein Herz für Kinder” works

Another pandemic year is drawing to a close. 2021 was a tough year, especially for our little ones. This makes it all the more important to support the children through your donations.

The BILD aid organization “A Heart for Children” (EHfK) is committed to making life better for the little ones around the world. This can only be done with your help!

BILD tells you why your donations are in good hands with “Ein Herz für Kinder”.

That is why every cent goes to “Ein Herz für Kinder”

In contrast to other aid organizations, at “Ein Herz für Kinder” every cent of a donation goes 100 percent to aid projects and children in need. No personnel, administration or business expenses are paid. These are covered by Axel Springer Verlag.

Diverse help worldwide

About half of the financial aid from “Ein Herz für Kinder” goes to Germany and the other half abroad. In 2020 the association was able to help 317,353 children worldwide. 1397 projects and individual cases were funded with 19.2 million euros.

This is where the help comes in

Children in need receive, among other things, food, clothing, furniture and learning materials. Schools, kindergartens and hospitals are supported in the development or expansion. Medical research is advanced, such as B. in the fight against rare childhood diseases or particularly aggressive cancers in childhood.

As one of the very few associations, “Ein Herz für Kinder” also provides individual aid: Seriously ill children who do not have health insurance are supported with life-saving operations – either in their home country or with treatment in Germany. In 2020, 6.6 million euros flowed into operations that saved many children’s lives.

What is the most donation for?

In 2021, the children in the flood areas in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate were particularly willing to donate. Within a very short time, more than 3.7 million euros were raised. This sum was made possible by many committed individuals who reached into their wallets and companies that also helped.

The “Playmobil Children’s Fund”, for example, spontaneously donated 300,000 euros! The REWE Group provided “A Heart for Children” with one million euros. All of the donations will make a sustainable contribution to the rapid reconstruction of children’s facilities (e.g. daycare centers, schools, playgrounds and sports fields) in the regions particularly affected.

This is how the association is controlled

Independent auditors check the work of the association in detail every year. This ensures that the money is used in the best interests of the donor.

In addition, “Ein Herz für Kinder” has been a member of the German Donation Council since 2016 and is committed to disclosing its structures, activities, projects and finances to the Donation Council and the public in an annual report. It shows, down to the cent, how much money went to which project.

Who decides on the distribution of the donations?

Every week “Ein Herz für Kinder” receives dozens of applications for support from Germany and around the world. Every application is checked by the employees in the association. Furthermore, the management and the bodies of the association decide on the release of the requested funds.

What kind of support is particularly important to the association?

Every application for support is carefully checked by “Ein Herz für Kinder” – regardless of whether it is 1000 euros or 100,000 euros. Two subject areas were funded as early as 2020 and will also play a major role this year:

▶︎ For children who are particularly affected by the Corona crisis – whether in Germany or abroad – EHfK provided over three million euros. In Germany, children from socially disadvantaged families received laptops and help with homework. In South America and Africa, for example, children were supported with food vouchers and hygiene items.

▶︎ Since the number of children who cannot swim has been increasing for years, BILD hilft eV supports swimming courses throughout Germany with over one million euros. So far, 24 295 children have been able to learn to swim through Germany-wide funding.
