End of the year in Acapulco: high hotel occupancy and beaches closed by COVID-19

The popular resort of Acapulco, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, will restrict access to its beaches for the remainder of the holiday season to avoid more infections by covid-19, after the place has been declared in the yellow color of the epidemiological traffic light of the Mexican Government.

“The beaches from today are They will close from 7:00 p.m., with the purpose that there are fewer people, fewer crowds ”, informed the state governor, Héctor Astudillo.

To comply with the measure, agents of the National Defense and Navy Secretariats, the National Guard and State Police will carry out a daily operating from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the next day to verify that the order is fulfilled within 60 kilometers of beach.

Given this decision, the gala celebration with pyrotechnics to celebrate the end of the year has been canceled, which a 20-year tradition has been broken.

“We know that fireworks have been an attraction for many years, there will be no fireworks this year and consequently there will be no possibility of being on the beach on December 31st. There is not an influx as in other years, “said the governor.

Although it is the second time in the state that access to the beaches is restricted due to the health contingency during this year, this time tourists have considered that it is a good way to reduce infections for the coronavirus.

“The most important thing is the health of all and if it is a measure so that we are all calmer and there are no more infections, I approve it,” said Francis, a tourist from Mexico City, who also commented that it is a way to forget a shortly the red traffic light where the CDMX is located.

Within the first day of the operation, different celebrations that took place on some beaches of the port were dispersed, showing that all activity is prohibited within that area.

The state of Guerrero is in the orange color in the epidemiological traffic light with differentiated colors for the municipalities of Chilpancingo, Zihuatanejo and Acapulco.

Acapulco is precisely the region with the lowest hospital occupancy in recent days and with a total of 25,862 confirmed cases and 2,680 deaths.

This Tuesday, Mexico reported 12: 099 new cases confirmed by covid-19, with which the figure rose to a total of 1,401,529 infections, reported the health authorities.

In addition, in the last 24 hours there were 990 deaths due to the pandemic, bringing the number of fatalities to 123,845.

With these figures, Mexico remains the fourth country in the world with the most deaths from the pandemic, followed by the United States, Brazil and India, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

In addition, according to this same institution, Mexico is the thirteenth country in the world in terms of number of infections.
