Drugovich finished leading the F2 tests in Barcelona

Felipe Drugovich finished leading the three days of Formula 2 testing after setting the fastest time on the last day in Barcelona.

The pilot of UNI-Virtuoso significantly lowered the benchmark time after becoming the only driver in the three days to lap below 1:28 on the circuit of Barcelona-Catalonia.

Drugovich led the morning session with a time of 1: 27.945 on a hot three-hour day with a blazing sun and a dry track.

The Brazilian mounted the new medium tire compound for 2021 with which he managed to be 0.160s faster than Oscar Piastri’s Prema Racing, while Friday’s leader Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix) was third.

Drugovich’s time was 0.335 faster than the previous best mark achieved by Richard Verschoor’s MP Motorsport on Saturday.

The teams were able to choose tires of the new medium and hard compounds for 2021 during the three days of testing. The hard compound made its debut at the season opener in Bahrain a month ago, while the medium compound has yet to make its race debut.

As in the day yesterday, the fastest times were achieved in the morning, as the teams focused on qualifying pace with the medium tire. Only eight tenths of a second separated the top 10.

Bahrain race winner and F2 rookie, Liam Lawson, (Hitech Grand Prix) was fourth in the morning, 0.010s faster than his teammate Juri Vips.

Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix), Robert Shwartzman (Prema Racing), Bent Viscaal (Trident), Lirim Zendeli (MP Motorsport) and championship leader Guanyu Zhou (UNI Virtuosi) rounded out the top ten.

The session was stopped twice. The first caused by Alessio Deledda’s HWA, who stopped on the track before Jehan Daruvala did at the Carlin in the final minutes.

In the afternoon session, much slower times were seen with Viscaal’s Trident leading the standings thanks to a lap of 1m30.280s.

Viscaal edged Matteo Nannini by 0.066 at the HWA with Marino Sato (Trident) third.

Deledda was fourth ahead of Marcus Armstrong in the DAMS, Zendeli, Roy Nissany (DAMS), Shwartzman, Lawson and Piastri.

In the afternoon, the day was interrupted twice, as Lawson and Saturday’s fastest Verschoor stopped on the track.
