Doctor suffered brain inflammation after allergic reaction to Pfizer vaccine, explains the IMSS

After a doctor from Coahuila will record side effects after receiving the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported that the swelling in the woman’s brain was due to an allergic reaction to the drug itself.

It was the director of Medical Benefits of the IMSS, Víctor Hugo Borja Aburto, who commented that the 32-year-old health professional presented an Event Supposedly Attributed to Vaccination or Immunization (esaV) after receiving the dose.

“The first symptom was 20 minutes after receiving the dose of the pfizer vaccine against COVID, it was the inflammation of the tongue, lips and hives or rash on the neck and chest, which was immediately treated with allergy medication, “he said.

In addition, the official explained that the doctor showed improvement and returned to her work center in the city of Monclova, Coahuila, but later had a picture of seizures.

“Then the doctor reported that she was allergic to sulfa that are present in some antibiotics. This was later, in questioning, when his medical history was taken and he referred infection by COVID-19 in April 2020 and had reported another acute respiratory infection possibly related to this event, “said Borja Aburto.

On January 1, the doctor had another picture of seizures and decreased muscle strength, so studies were carried out and a plasmapheresis was performed to extract plasma from her blood and drain antibodies from the vaccine.

“The diagnosis at that time was of a allergic reaction to the vaccine, this is confirmed, the allergic reaction, what is not confirmed is that other reaction that led to seizures and decreased muscle strength, whether this is related to the vaccine or not and this is what is still being studied “, Health personnel explained.
