Today, From 9 o’clock, the vaccination plan against the coronavirus in the country will begin. It was 301 days that passed from the first positive case of Covid-19 was confirmed, until the application of the first Russian doses. During that time, Argentina had 1,578,267 infected and exceeded 42,000 deaths, figures that place the country among the first 12 in the global ranking.

Amid concern about the acceleration of new cases, the national government distributed the first 300,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine in the 23 provinces and the city of Buenos Aires, which in this first stage will be focused on health personnel. The province of Buenos Aires, for example, received 123,000 vaccines -41% of the total-, Santa Fe 24,100, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires 23,100, Córdoba 21,900, Tucumán 11,500, Mendoza 11,000, Entre Ríos 10,100, and Salta 8,300.

This is what the president spoke last Saturday Alberto Fernandez and the governors. There, in addition, there was a majority agreement to set the example. The President and most of the provincial leaders will be vaccinated with Sputnik V. It has not yet been resolved when, since the doses that arrived in the country were authorized for people between 18 and 60 years old; Fernández is 61.

During the months of January and February another 20 million doses will arrive in the country to complete the vaccination of health personnel and security forces. It will be in April, as confirmed by the Minister of Health, Ginés González García, with the arrival of 22,400,000 doses of the vaccine from Astra Zeneca and the University of Oxford, whose serum is produced in the country by mAbxience, a company of Hugo Sigman, that the vaccination schedule will “massively begin”.

“The vaccine begins to be applied to those who are most necessary for society and those who are more exposed as well,” described González García, who also stressed that the second dose of Sputnik V should be applied “after 21 days” of the first dose and until day 60 thereafter.

Although it agreed with several laboratories to purchase the drug, the national government prioritized the negotiation with Russia. Even unlike what happened with the Pfizer serum, the approval of Sputnik V was signed by the Ministry of Health, which is based on a recommendation from the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT).

This raised doubts in the opposition, which asked the government to explain how the authorization process for the Russian vaccine was. In the last hours, as advanced THE NATION, Part of the internal file carried out by Anmat was leaked to advance with the “emergency authorization” of the vaccine from the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which exposes part of the information that the Russian body has not yet made public on adverse effects that included volunteers had in phase 3.

According to the text, the most frequent event was a flu-like syndrome. Others suffered renal colic, deep vein thrombosis, and a limb abscess. “The Anmat made a correct analysis and is favorable to the vaccine,” said Eduardo López, head of the Department of Medicine of the Ricardo Gutiérrez Children’s Hospital after reading the document.

Argentina is not the only nation that negotiates with the Kremlin. In the list also appear Venezuela, Belarus and Brazil. Furthermore, in several countries, such as India, South Korea, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Mexico and Kazakhstan, various private sector companies are also in talks with the Sovereign Fund of the Russian Federation.

Another negotiation that generated political problems was with China. The lack of results determined the surprise departure of the ambassador in Beijing, Luis Kreckler, which will be replaced by Sabino Vaca Narvaja -son of Fernando Vaca Narvaja, historical leader of Montoneros, and brother of Camilo, ex-partner of Florencia Kirchner, who has an office in the Casa Rosada-, who until now served as a parallel ambassador under the title of “special representative for Commercial Promotion and Investments “.

Meanwhile, the Government is preparing to launch the vaccination plan, one of the bets to close the year. In the midst of the economic and social crisis, the President had set himself the goal of starting vaccination before the arrival of the second wave of infections. In the Casa Rosada they are clear that facing an election year with a strict quarantine, as happens in Europe, could seriously complicate the chances.

“We did a really important operation, it is not only the arrival (of the vaccines) but also unpacking, verifying that they were perfect, that the temperature had been preserved all the time and repacking again with the temperature (indicated), with tons of dry ice They worked day and night in several shifts and that meant that yesterday morning the trucks began to leave the whole country, “explained González García.
