Climate in Mexico: Polar air mass will cover most of the country

The polar air mass that reinforced the cold front number 24 will cover most of Mexico during tonight and early Monday morning, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicted.

In its 6:00 PM forecast, the SMN said that the cold front will extend over the Mexican southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula, and they are expected very strong occasional rains in Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán, as well as strong punctual rainfall in Oaxaca and Quintana Roo.

While the polar air mass will favor a very cold to icy environment in the states from the Mesa del Norte and the Mesa Central, including the Valley of Mexico; in addition to frost at dawn in mountainous areas of those regions and fog banks in Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco.

The North event is also expected with gusts of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour (km / h) in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec and with gusts of 40 to 50 km / h on the coasts of Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.

Forecast of minimum temperatures for the early morning of January 4:

-15 to -10 ° C with frost: mountainous areas of Sonora, Chihuahua and Durango.

-10 to -5 ° C with frost: mountainous areas of Baja California, Coahuila, Nuevo León and the State of Mexico.

-5 to 0 ° C with frost: mountainous areas of Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí (west), Jalisco (north), Aguascalientes (north), Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Morelos, Puebla and Mexico City.

0 to 5 ° C and possible frost: mountainous areas of Tamaulipas, Querétaro, Veracruz and Oaxaca (northwest).
