Chivas extends dominion over Atlas; best winning streak in 13 years

The Chivas ratify their dominance in the Clásico Tapatío with a triumph in Jalisco

With tonight’s victory before Atlas on the field of the Jalisco Stadium, Chivas established a new record of consecutive victories against the rojinegro team after overcoming five consecutive victories from Apertura 2006 to Apertura 2008.

The second longest positive streak in short tournaments in the history of the Clásicos Tapatíos belongs to Guadalajara itself, and was established from the 2006 Apertura Tournament to the 2008 Apertura Tournament – now this is it.

It ended during the 2009 Clausura Tournament, when on March 15, 2009, Bruno Marioni with a penalty goal in the 91st minute gave the red and black team victory in an agonizing match on the Jalisco Stadium field.

Tonight, Guadalajara added its sixth consecutive match beating the rojinegro team, after having the best consecutive winning streak in the last 13 years, the same as It started during the 2018 Apertura Tournament, when Chivas beat Atlas 0-1.

After the 2018 Apertura Tournament, Guadalajara won five consecutive victories after beating the red and black team during the Clausura 2019, Apertura 2019, Clausura 2020 and Guard1anes 2020.

Among the most significant victories are the win during the Clausura 2019, when Chivas beat Atlas 3-0 with an outstanding performance by Alexis Vega, as well as the 2019 Apertura Tournament, where again Alexis Vega scored to beat the hated rival of the city with the slightest difference.

In the final part of the match, Guadalajara found the light in the game, after Alexis Vega entered the area and surpassed the mark of Jesús Angulo to assist with a delayed diagonal to Ángel Zaldívar who with a ‘little heel’ finished the ball in the rival goal to place the 0 to 1 on the scoreboard.

With this result Atlas complicated his salvation from the bottom of the quotient table, after he no longer depends on himself to save himself, so he is forced to beat Necaxa and that the Atlético de San Luis team lose to Pachuca.

For his part Chivas remains alive and in reclassification positions after reaching 22 units occupying eighth place in the general table, so he depends on himself on the last date against Tigres at home to secure his place in the playoff phase.
