Chimney sweep Julia Bothur (35) from Bochum (North Rhine-Westphalia) and master painter Andy Hansen (36) from Husum (Schleswig-Holstein) are a real power couple who understand their craft! “We both live for our job, are both self-employed and often have to struggle with similar challenges, which connects,” says Julia Bothur. She has been a self-employed chimney sweep (two employees) since 2012 and is also a lecturer at the master school.
Julia was born with the artisan genes: Papa, sister and brother-in-law – all are chimney sweeps. “It was always clear to me that I wanted to do this job. I couldn’t imagine anything more beautiful! “
Andy Hansen is a trained painter, made his master in 2019 and has been his own boss since then (two employees). His motto: “Everything shines when Andy paints,” he says and laughs.
The two craftsmen met over the Internet a year and a half ago. Because they not only share a passion for the craft, they also like to represent the interests of their industry. Both of them use social media (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok) and occasionally shoot videos together.
Andy was also “Mister Handwerk 2020”, girlfriend Julia made it to the Miss final this year. “We just want to advertise the craft. Show how nice our job is, ”says Julia Bothur. But it is also labor-intensive: Most of the time, both of them work more than 50 hours a week. Add to that the commuting between Bochum and Husum – is there any time left for the relationship? Julia: “Sure! We consciously take time out, the last time we were on vacation in Kos! “
Has she ever climbed his roof? Andy: “Fortunately not yet.” What does the future look like? Andy: “I hope Julia will move in with me at some point. Then we want to build a house and run a joint company. “
