The Chicago Cubs activated outfielder Ian Happ from the disabled list after missing playing time due to a bruised rib.
“I feel good already,” Happ said Saturday morning. “I feel great. It’s like nothing I’ve ever had before. Exercising the last three or four days, being able to pitch, hit, run and do whatever it takes to play in a major league baseball game.”
Happ, 26, was injured in a clash with second baseman Nico Hoerner as both players collided looking for a fly ball in the outfield earlier this month. Hoerner also spent time on the disabled list with a forearm injury. It was activated on Friday.
To make room for Happ on the roster, infielder Ildemaro Vargas was put on assignment. Happ was placed sixth in the lineup and as a starter in center field against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
