Juarez City.- After little more than 8 years of operations, Cefereso 9 ceased to function as a federal prison in this city as of today, according to an agreement published this Sunday in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
All of the approximately 400 inmates who were held in that jail were transferred to federal prisons in Nayarit and Jalisco, as confirmed by a source from Cefereso 9, which will be dismantled as of this date.
The facilities will be disincorporated from the federal penitentiary system. The State of Chihuahua is already claiming them to finalize the Cereso Productivo project, as it became known.
The federal disincorporation is after an evaluation where it was highlighted that it did not meet the requirements of a penitentiary to house dangerous prisoners, since the original design was not made under the proper conditions for a Cefereso, according to personnel from that prison.
The agreement published today in the DOF establishes that “Persons deprived of liberty housed in the Federal Center for Social Readaptation number 9″ North “will be transferred to the federal centers for social rehabilitation determined by the Commissioner for Prevention and Social Readaptation, who will carry out the actions and steps necessary to do so, respecting their human rights at all times ”.
It transpired that some of the inmates transferred this morning, would also be concentrated in Ceferesos de Guanajuato and Michoacán.
“The rights of the workers attached to the Federal Center for Social Readaptation number 9″ North “will be respected in accordance with the law, for which they will be relocated to other federal penitentiary centers determined by the Commissioner for Prevention and Social Readaptation, according to the needs of the Institution’s service ”, also cites the official document regarding the fate of the custodians of Cefereso 9.
