Thousands of people gathered in the streets of the downtown area of Playa del Carmen, in Quintana Roo, to celebrate New Years, mostly without a mask and without respecting the healthy distance, despite the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
In videos published on social networks, hundreds of people are seen celebrating the arrival of 2021 in restaurants and some others walking in the pedestrian areas of streets such as 10 Avenida Norte, Calle 12 Norte and 1 Avenida Norte.
In some of the videos, several people are also seen gathering in the same area to watch the fireworks display.
Currently, Quintana Roo is in an epidemiological traffic light in yellow and since December 15, the use of a mask is mandatory by decree of the state government.
So far, in the state there are already 15,958 infections and 2,032 deaths from covid-19.
As of 1:00 p.m. on January 1, 2021, 2,31 deaths and 15,968 positive cases have been reported.
