Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu, eighth seed, won this Thursday in a marathon match against Greek Maria Sakkaris and was cited in the final of the Miami Open with world number one, Ashleigh Barty.
Andreescu beat Sakkari, 23rd seeded, 7-6 (9/7), 3-6 and 7-6 (7/4) in two hours and 42 minutes of a game that lasted until after 01:30 a.m. local time in Miami due to to delays due to rain.
The 20-year-old Canadian had finished exhausted in Wednesday’s match against Spain’s Maria Sorribes but managed to resist another heart attack match against Sakkari, who had eliminated Japan’s Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals.
On Saturday, Andreescu will play her first final since her resounding triumph at the 2019 US Open. Her rival will be the Australian Ashleigh Barty, reigning champion in Miami.
