Bottas leads the first free practice in Spain

MADRID –-Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) set the best time in the first free practice of the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix that is being held at the Barcelona-Catalonia Circuit, session in which the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Alpine) finished sixth and fifteenth, respectively.

Bottas set a time of 1 minute 18 seconds and 504 thousandths, ahead of the great rival this year, the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who was second, and his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, third.

The Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez (Red Bull) made a discreet ninth time, 845 thousandths of Bottas.

For his part, Sainz achieved a sixth place with his Ferrari, 516 thousandths behind Bottas, and Alonso could not pass from fifteenth place with his Alpine, 1 second and 446 thousandths of the best time. The two lagged behind their teammates, Charles Lecrerc and Esteban Ocón.

The session was interrupted for a few minutes by the accident without consequences of the Polish Robert Kubica (Aston Martin) in the remodeled Turn 10.
