Ahrweiler (Rhineland-Palatinate) – An eerie atmosphere in the flood disaster area on the Ahr: mountains of rubbish, destroyed streets, houses and cars are everywhere. In contrast, there is a gigantic willingness to help from volunteers. Yesterday, BILD started a big campaign with donations in kind for the helpers and those affected by the flood.
The editors of “BILD fights for you” distributed sandwiches on Tuesday, along with urgently needed additional batteries for smartphones from Media Markt.
As early as 8.30 a.m., the first people were lining up at the Ahrweiler market to get fresh coffee and sandwiches. Many hadn’t had breakfast for days – there is just so much work.
Kathrin Depka (40) was particularly hard hit by the flood, but she has not lost her laughter. “My friend and I only moved in here in August 2020. With the exception of the kitchen, we have renovated everything, and now we have to start all over again. It’s bitter, but what should we do? ”Says the owner of the half-timbered house. “There is such a void. We have been working through it for twelve days now and there is still no end in sight. Actions like this are a change. “
Matthias Grüll (63), a strategy consultant from neighboring Grafschaft, spent a week helping to clear out the flooded apartment of his partner’s daughter. He reports: “It wasn’t until I got home that I cried. When you work, you don’t let emotions get in your way. “
Gerhard Monz (63) traveled specially from Balingen in Baden-Württemberg: “I stay in my mobile home and stay as a helper for as long as I am needed. Thanks for the Coffee.”
Helper Simone Rödder (50) from the Westerwald (knowledge / victory): “This is a great campaign and the rolls are delicious!” Steven Conzen (36) also praises the breakfast: “Thank you for helping from BILD.”
The flood relief campaign in Bad Neuenahr continues on Wednesday. It turns out that high-quality drying devices or hygiene articles are still missing. The BILD team is still on the road for you today. On board: donations from well-known partners such as Procter & Gamble. Watch out for the BILD transporter.
