Barcelona resigns David Alaba because he knows he will play for Real Madrid

BARCELONA – Barcelona recently investigated the possibility of signing David Alaba but the Catalan club has finally renounced this possibility because they know that the still central Bayern Munich has already committed to Real Madrid, different sources confirmed to ESPN.

The Catalan club has well advanced the arrival of Eric García as a free agent since the Spanish international also ends his contract with Manchester City but Ronald Koeman welcomed the arrival of another center-back with more experience like Alaba to lead the defense alongside Gerard Pique.

However, this season the Dutch coach has found his best team in a 3-5-2 and has had to delay the versatile Frenkie de Jong or bet on specialists from the subsidiary such as Ronald Araújo (22), Oscar Mingueza (21) or the also young Clement Lenglet (25) to compose his defense of three centrals.

The Catalan club does not have Samuel Umtiti and different sources have confirmed to ESPN that the new president Joan Laporta studied the possibility of signing Alaba taking advantage of the good relations he maintains with his representative, Pini Zahavi.

However, the same sources have acknowledged to ESPN that Barça had to throw in the towel soon because the Austrian footballer had already arranged everything with Madrid.

In reality, Madrid began negotiating with the Austrian defender even before Laporta was elected president of Barcelona.

Alaba had decided months ago that he wanted to leave Bayern once his contract ended at the end of this season and Madrid was interested from the first moment in his situation due to the doubts that there are about the continuity of Sergio Ramos.

In fact, in early February ESPN already reported that Madrid was the favorite to sign the Austrian international even though Chelsea and Liverpool were also pushing hard for him.

The agreement between the white club and Alaba was not completely closed at the time and Laporta also tried to put Barça in the bid because he considered that signing a footballer of the Austrian category for free was a good market opportunity. However, he soon realized that he could not compete with the economic offer of a Madrid that had a lot of advantage in the race for his signing.

In addition, sources close to the white dressing room reveal to ESPN that the good relationship between Toni Kroos and Alaba also facilitated their decision to finish at Real Madrid.

Thus, the white club will finally win the battle for Alaba while what will happen with Ramos and Raphael Varane is still in the air.

The captain ends his contract at the end of the season and has not yet renewed, while Varane ends his relationship in 2022 and Madrid could open the door to him this summer to avoid losing him for free in a year.

In February ESPN already reported that Manchester United is attentive to Varane’s situation and the defense himself did not want to confirm or deny the rumors about his possible departure when asked by journalists in the preview of the first leg of the Champions League semifinals. against Chelsea.

“My future is clear. I am focused on the end of the season. We are in an intense moment and we have to be focused on what lies ahead and that is the most important thing,” Varane said in the previous match against Chelsea.
