Canadian Bianca Andreescu, one of the stars of the women’s tennis circuit, will miss the Madrid Open next week after testing positive for covid-19, the player announced on Twitter.
“After giving negative twice before my flight to Madrid, I inform you with sadness that I have tested positive for covid-19 upon my arrival, so I will not be able to participate in the Madrid Open this next week,” tweeted this Sunday the number 6 in the world.
“I feel good, I am resting, following all health protocols and safety recommendations,” added the tennis player.
“I hope to be back on the court very soon,” concluded the 20-year-old.
The Ontario native is not having a good start to the season, retiring in the Miami final last month after sustaining a right foot injury against world No. 1 Australian Ashleigh Barty.
For the winner of the US Open in 2019, the presence at Roland Garros, the great event of the clay season, which will begin just a month from now, is complicated.
