Andreescu out of the Madrid tournament after testing positive for covid

Canadian Bianca Andreescu, one of the stars of the women’s tennis circuit, will miss the Madrid Open next week after testing positive for covid-19, the player announced on Twitter.

“After giving negative twice before my flight to Madrid, I inform you with sadness that I have tested positive for covid-19 upon my arrival, so I will not be able to participate in the Madrid Open this next week,” tweeted this Sunday the number 6 in the world.

“I feel good, I am resting, following all health protocols and safety recommendations,” added the tennis player.

“I hope to be back on the court very soon,” concluded the 20-year-old.

The Ontario native is not having a good start to the season, retiring in the Miami final last month after sustaining a right foot injury against world No. 1 Australian Ashleigh Barty.

For the winner of the US Open in 2019, the presence at Roland Garros, the great event of the clay season, which will begin just a month from now, is complicated.
