He Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported that the inflammation in the brain that a Coahuila doctor presented, after receiving the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19, was due to an allergic reaction to the drug itself.
Víctor Hugo Borja Aburto, IMSS Director of Medical Benefits, commented that the 32-year-old health professional presented an Event Supposedly Attributed to Vaccination or Immunization (ESAVI) after receiving the dose.
“The first symptom was 20 minutes after receiving the dose of the pfizer vaccine Against the Covid, it was the inflammation of the tongue, lips and hives or rash on the neck and chest, which was immediately treated with allergy medication, “he said.

The official explained that the doctor showed improvement and returned to her workplace in the city of Monclova, Coahuila, but later had a picture of seizures.
“So the doctor reported that she was allergic to sulfa that are present in some antibiotics. This was later, in questioning, when his medical history was taken and he referred infection by Covid-19 in April 2020 and had reported another acute respiratory infection possibly related to this event, “he reported.
On January 1, the doctor had another picture of seizures and decreased muscle strength, so studies were carried out and a plasmapheresis was performed to extract plasma from her blood and drain antibodies from the vaccine.

“The diagnosis at that time was an allergic reaction to the vaccine, this is confirmed, the allergic reaction, what is not confirmed is that other reaction that led to seizures and decreased muscle strength if this is related to the vaccine or no and this is what is still being studied ”, explained Borja Aburto.
He added that so far the doctor is under treatment and reports improvement, she has no longer had seizures and her muscle strength has improved.
