Edson Álvarez, when he was expelled and with the title in the bag, Ajax decided to advance his rest days
Edson Álvarez will start his vacation before the rest of his Ajax teammates. Erik ten Hag chose to give the Mexican days off before reporting to the Mexican National Team. The coach made such a decision after the America youth squad will pay for his suspension match this Thursday, while for Sunday, in the last game of the season, with the championship already in the bag, the Mexican may be absent.
Álvarez is the second Ajax footballer to take a vacation before the Eredivisie season ends. Previously, Ten Hag granted said permission to Nicolás Tagliafico, who will concentrate with the Argentine national team for the Copa América, while the Mexican is considered by Gerardo Martino for the friendly match against Iceland on May 29, in addition to the semifinals of the Nations League.
Ajax was crowned on Matchday 31 with 4-0 over Emmen. For the next match, against Feyenoord, Tagliafico no longer appeared and Álvarez was sent off at minute 45. However, the Amsterdam team came out with the victory.
Al Ajax, already with the guaranteed championship, have two games left to close the season. On Thursday they will face Venlo, a duel in which Edson cannot participate due to suspension and will close the season on Sunday against Vitesse.
This Tuesday, Álvarez already took a flight to Mexico where he is expected to have a few days off before reporting with Gerardo Martino’s team. Even Ajax said goodbye to Edson through their social networks.
“Edson Álvarez is already enjoying his days off in Mexico! See you soon, El Machín! ”Wrote the Dutch, accompanied by a photo of the footballer with his family, already on the plane.
Álvarez closes a season with 39 games in which he contributed with two goals and two assists. The Mexican played 24 duels in the Eredivisie, five in the cup, four in the Champions League and six in the Europa League.
