Doctors in Lithuania removed more than a kilogram of nails and screws from a patient’s stomach. As the hospital in Klaipeda reported on Friday, the man had been admitted with severe stomach pain. An X-ray showed that he had numerous pieces of metal up to ten centimeters in length in his stomach.
The unbelievable reason: He explained to the medics that he had started swallowing metal since he stopped drinking a month ago!
In a three-hour operation, the doctors finally removed all the screws and nails from the patient’s stomach.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” chief surgeon Algirdas Slepavicius told local media.
The patient is doing well after the operation. Would he prefer to drink again now?
