Dangerous attack in the heart of Paris!
On Tuesday lunchtime armed robbers stole a lot in a branch of the luxury jeweler Bulgari.
In fine suits, but with firearms in hand, three perpetrators entered the shop on Place Vendôme – and were able to flee with jewelry worth ten million euros.
The three of them roared away in a car, four other accomplices searched the distance on motorcycles. Police chased the robbers and fired shots at the car. The perpetrators had to get out of the damaged car and leave some of the loot behind. The police shot a man in the leg. Arrest!
All three car occupants were caught – but the accomplices on the motorcycles escaped. The manhunt is ongoing.
Bulgari said no one was injured in the robbery.
“It is not the first time that the Place Vendôme has been targeted,” said a police officer, according to Reuters news agency. “But these weren’t just pistols they were armed with. Taking such a risk with big guns is something that rarely happens. “
In July, thieves stole nearly 2 million euros ($ 2.4 million) in jewelry from a Chaumet store near the Champs-Elysees, although the stolen goods were later recovered and the suspects arrested.
In the same month, a Dinh Van jewelry store in central Paris was also robbed.
The Bulgari branch recently underwent a major renovation. The historic Place Vendôme is considered to be the heart of French luxury. Brands like Chanel, Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels have invested heavily in the prestigious flagships that line the square.
