1.75 million corona deaths
More than 80 million infected people worldwide

It has been proven that more than 80 million people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Most of the infections are in the United States. In Europe, Russia is hardest hit. Above all, the start of the vaccination campaign gives rise to hope in Germany.

The number of corona infections detected worldwide has risen to more than 80 million since the beginning of the pandemic. This is the result of the evaluation by ntv.de. The threshold of 60 million infections was only exceeded at the end of November. The number of known deaths related to the virus is now 1.75 million. Experts assume that there are high numbers of unreported cases of both infections and deaths.

Most of the confirmed infections are in the United States, a country of around 330 million people, with nearly 19 million. There are also more confirmed deaths there than in any other country, around 330,000. Almost 10.2 million infections have now been detected in India and almost 7.5 million in Brazil.

Russia is hardest hit in Europe, with more than three million infections. France (2.5 million), Great Britain (2.3 million), Turkey (2.1 million) and Italy (2 million) also already have more than two million proven infected people.

There have been more than 1.6 million detected infections across Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. Almost 30,000 deaths (as of December 25) are related to the virus. The start of the vaccination campaign in Germany gives hope for improvement. This officially begins on Sunday, the start was already on this Saturday in a senior citizen center in Halberstadt (Saxony-Anhalt). The 101-year-old Edith Kwoizalla was the first German to be vaccinated, and 40 other residents and ten employees were vaccinated in the facility.
